Give Honor to Whom Honor is Due Exodus 20:12 Today we'll talk about the fifth commandment, the command to honor your father and your mother. As you sit in church today, pray that God would show you what this command means. How can you show honor to them? Perhaps you don’t feel like they deserve honor! But we’ll see today that God calls us to love, respect and submit to Mom and Dad because of their God-given authority – not because they are perfect parents. Do you want to be given love only when you are “lovable?” So we also are not to grant honor only when we see an honorable life lived before us. Today we'll not only see what this command means, but how Jesus transformed it by his perfect obedience to his parents! 1. To honor your parents means to love, respect and submit to them in the Lord 2. Why should you obey the fifth commandment? a. It brings God's blessings b. It pleases the Lord c. It is RIGHT 3. Jesus was the perfect child Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
