John 14:15-20 The Promise of the Spirit Summary: God loves to give good gifts to his children. One of his best gifts is found in the verses we'll look at today in our sermon. Jesus has promised to give the gift of his Holy Spirit to come to us and live inside of us, spiritually. Because of this, you can know that you are never alone! God is always with you now, because he lives in you. Let's think about it: Outline: 1. Be confident: the Holy Spirit lives in you 2. Be encouraged: because Jesus lives, so will you 3. Be assured: You are in Christ, and He is in you Verse: John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever... Questions for devotions and family worship: 1. Do you sometimes seem like God is distant in your life? If so, why? 2. Why is it important that Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to the disciples in this passage, given all that he had already told them was coming? 3. Take a few minutes to name all the lavish promises Jesus gives to believers in verses 15-20. Which of these do you find most helpful in your life, especially if you feel like God is distant?
