Sadly slavery still exists in some parts of the world. In Jesus' day many people were slaves. A slave usually could only be set free if someone purchased their freedom. This is where we get the word redeem - to purchase a person's freedom by paying what is called a ransom price. Before Jesus saves us, we are slaves to sin, and the Bible tells us that Jesus paid the ransom price to redeem us - to set us free from sin! Let's think about it: 1.
