I Have Overcome the World
Summary:
Jesus makes a promise to his people in our passage today. Actually, he makes two promises: "In this world you will have tribulation." That means life will be hard at times, with trials, disappointments, pain and difficulties. But his second promise is grand, as Jesus promises victory over it all: "But take heart; I have overcome the world." What does this mean? Let's find out together:

Questions for devotions and family worship:
1. Jesus makes a grim promise to the disciples, but also to the rest of us: "In this world you will have tribulation." How does Jesus describe this looming trouble to his disciples? How has tribulation touched your life?
2. In the midst of your own troubles, why is it so important to know that Jesus came from the Father and then returned to the father (v. 28)?
3. How was Jesus' promise "I have overcome the world" fulfilled? How will it be further fulfilled in the future? In what way might this promise help you to have peace (v.33)? How can this promise help you to "take heart" in your own trials?
