What are the things that make you afraid? When you're afraid, how do you find peace? Today as we come back to the life of Jesus and his disciples, we hear about the things that can disturb our peace, and the way Jesus and his Gospel calms our fears and brings true hope.
Outline:
1. Peace through the Spirit and the Word
2. Peace through Jesus' completed mission
3. Peace in the face of our great enemies
Verse: John 14:27a Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Questions for devotions and family worship:
1. What are the things that bring you most fear, and tend to rob your peace?
2. How can the presence of the Holy Spirit, sent by the Father in Jesus' name, protect your peace both now and forever? How did the Spirit particularly help the disciples' mission to give us God's Word, according to vv. 25-26?
3. According to Jesus, why was it better for our peace that he went away to the Father?
4. We have real enemies - particularly the world, Satan, and our own sin. But how do the truths in this passage help us combat their attacks on our peace?
