Mark 10:35-45
Christmas Ransom
Summary: As we prepare for Christmas, let's think about another reason Jesus came to our world: He came to serve and give his life for us. Today we'll hear two of Jesus' disciples ask a strange question of Jesus: they want to sit beside him in his glory when he becomes king. Jesus teaches them the true nature of his kingdom, and the central reason he had to die for us. Let's listen in:
Outline:
The desire for greatness
The upside down kingdom
The reason for Jesus’ coming: to be a servant willing to die for us
Verse: Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Questions for devotions and family worship:
1. What is wrong with the request of James and John? What does it reveal about their understanding of Jesus and his kingdom?
2. How does Jesus correct them? In what sense are the values of Jesus' kingdom
