Genesis 17:9-14; Colossians 2:11-12
The Sign of God’s Covenant, Part 2
Summary:
Last week we said that long ago God placed his mark of ownership on his people through circumcision. This week we’ll talk about how that sign for us now is baptism. Have you been baptized? If so, then you have God’s mark upon you, and it should remind you every day that you need Jesus blood to cleanse your heart of sin, just like water washes your body. Let’s think about why baptism is so important:
Outline:
1. Baptism is the sign of the New Covenant
2. Baptism is a sign and a seal:
a. A sign of membership in Christ’s covenant community
b. A sign of our need to be cleansed
c. A seal of God’s promises to unite us to Christ through faith
3. Who should take the New Covenant sign? Believers and their children
Verse: Acts 2:39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”
